ANZ Centre

About the Project

The three-storey plus basement ANZ Centre has been constructed on a high-profile site bordering Colombo, Cashel, and High Streets, in the heart of Christchurch’s CBD.

The ANZ Centre is a sophisticated fusion of retail and offices. It is now home to 500 staff of the ANZ Bank, Beca, and a range of retail outlets, including Glassons, Hallensteins, Macpac, Merchant and Storm.

As well as the base build, Leighs Construction also completed an architecturally designed fit-out for Beca Engineering, including office space for 300 staff, meeting rooms, reception, and kitchens, along with office and branch fit-outs for ANZ. These fit-outs were carried out whilst the base build was being completed, as were a number of retail fit-outs.

The ground floor provides access to retailers, cafes, upper floor office spaces, and an 82-space basement carpark with bike storage.

The building footprint is approximately 3100m², with a total project size of 15,000m². The atrium’s high-end finish has feature white Carrera marble flooring and a stepped and curved fibrous plaster ceiling. The building is designed to withstand a 1 in 2500-year MCE (Main Considered Earthquake). In a 1-in-2500 year event, the building will be damaged beyond repair, but will not collapse. The base isolators used for the project were designed and supplied off-shore, with the units undergoing two separate testing inspection regimes.

The outcome of this project showcases Leighs’ ability to produce a high-standard and quality commercial fit out, including a challenging design, from a programme, architectural and services perspective.
