Stranges Building

About the Project

Opened by the Prime Minister in April 2014, the Stranges Building was the first new commercial building to be completed in the core of the Christchurch CBD following the February 2011 earthquake.

The 1,500m² Stranges Building and adjoining 600m² Glendinning Hill building have been built to house a mix of hospitality and office spaces.

The buildings have been constructed to IL4 standard. This is evident in the unique, 500mm thick, egg-shaped core, crucial to the strength of the building, which allowed the architects to use lightweight materials on the exterior to give an overall impression of light and space. Further egg-shaped holes were cut into the centre of the mezzanine floor, which was lined with metal.
