Briscoes Salisbury Street

About the Project

Briscoes was badly damaged in the February 2011 earthquakes and demolished by Mackay Leighs Demolition in June 2011.

Leighs Construction was contracted to rebuild a new 2,700m² store and began work in November 2011 with the store open for business on 1 August 2012, a month earlier than planned.

The building was constructed with a suspended ground floor slab to protect it from any future liquefaction – the cause of so much damage to the original building. The slab sits on 8.5m long driven concrete piles.
