B19 School Cluster

The B19 Cluster project involved building new classroom blocks at three schools in Auckland, namely Botany Downs, Puhinui, and Sutton Park. The project was completed on time and within budget. Although the architectural design of the buildings is almost the same, civil works and landscaping were adapted to suit the specific locations.

Leighs takes pride in the B19 Cluster project's accomplishment, delivering within budget and schedule in a fast-paced construction environment. The success is attributed to proactive teams, a positive reporting culture emphasizing health and safety, and effective collaboration.

While the architectural design of the buildings remains nearly identical, civil works and landscaping were tailored to each location. Notably, the foundation of Botany involved 36 concrete piles, each driven 12m deep. The staged construction allowed the project team to leverage insights gained from one site and apply refinements to subsequent locations.

Sustainability features of the project include double-skinned insulated roofs and modern ceiling tiles, enabling uninterrupted teaching even during heavy Auckland downpours. Despite encountering challenges such as forming a site management team of new Leighs employees and managing RFIs, the team maintained a high standard, upholding Leighs' reputation for Pride, Passion, and Excellence.

The B19 project was awarded Gold at the 2025 New Zealand Commercial Project Awards in the Education Category.
