Hillmorton High School Redevelopment

About the Project

Part of the Christchurch School Rebuild Programme, and due to an increase of the Build Roll forecasted for the school, the Ministry chose to construct a new two storey Middle School Building with 20 teaching spaces for mainstream and two teaching spaces for Van Asch Special Education.

The project includes the construction of a new middle school building and refurbishment of existing buildings, as well as civil works, infrastructure, and remediation works.

The project team developed an excellent working relationship with the Hillmorton High School principal, and significant effort went into ensuring there was as little disruption to teaching schedules and classroom activity as possible.

Due to extreme winter weather conditions, the ground floor external walls were tented to keep the warmth in, so intumescent coatings could be applied to the structural steel. This solved the cold issue and kept the project to programme.
