About the Project

Designed and built to a 5-Star Green Star rating to include modern, therapeutic environments with centralised courtyards, single rooms, and flexible spaces.

This makes it the first public health facility in New Zealand to achieve a 5-Star rating under the Design & As Built v1.0 framework—a significant milestone for sustainable healthcare infrastructure

The facility is of complex timber construction and includes two different buildings: an Integrated Family Services Centre to house a 13-bed service for mothers and babies, inpatient and outpatient eating disorder units, plus a 16- bed child and family inpatient unit. The second building is a 16-bed High and Complex Needs Unit to provide services for patients with acute mental health illness.

The buildings have a modern, therapeutic environment with natural lighting, centralised courtyards, single rooms and flexible spaces. Other works included a Central Plant Building (Energy Centre) and staff facilities.

The larger of the two buildings is the Integrated Family Services Centre, which is comprised of services for mothers and babies, inpatient and outpatient eating disorder units, and a child and family inpatient unit.
