The Langlands Hotel
About the Project
Built during the hardships of COVID-19, construction faced challenging material shortages and labour restrictions. It was important that local businesses were used as much as possible, from the local designers and subcontractors, to suppliers of fixtures, fittings, equipment, and even the artwork for the guest rooms. This supported community and sustainability goals.
The Langlands Hotel is one of the largest construction projects Invercargill has seen in recent years. The brief was to build a premium hospitality venue.

Location
The brief was to create a modern space with contemporary elements and a ground-floor presence that creates wow factor. The result is a 4.5-Star, 3,000m2 hotel is comprised of three main forms, two are five storeys high, with a larger, seven-storey form on the corner of Dee and Don Streets. Designed to invite the public in, the building has numerous entrances making all spaces very much part of the city.
The hotel boasts 78 hotel suites, two bars, a café, restaurant and several function rooms; a bar on the top floor aptly named “360” provides expansive views of the city. The double-height transparent foyer space on the corner doubles as an event space, serviced by a bar.
